Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Everything you need to know about playing, tuning, and recording with our virtual cello simulator.

Q: What is a Cello and how does this online simulator work?

The cello (violoncello) is a bowed string instrument known for its deep, rich acoustic timbre. Our online simulator uses authentic samples recorded from real acoustic cellos and Web Audio technology to deliver natural string sustain and bowing dynamics directly in your browser.

Q: How is the cello tuned compared to a violin?

The cello is tuned in fifths like a violin, but an octave plus a fifth lower (C2, G2, D3, A3). This gives the cello its characteristic deep resonance and broad expressive register covering bass, tenor, and lyrical soprano ranges.

Q: What is the difference between Arco, Pizzicato, and Sordino modes?

Arco simulates continuous bowing where pressing down sustains the note; Pizzicato simulates plucking the string with fingers for a short, resonant staccato punch; Sordino applies an acoustic lowpass filter to mimic a heavy rubber practice mute attached to the bridge.

Q: How does live recording and playback work on this simulator?

Click the red RECORD button in the top toolbar to begin recording your performance. When finished, click STOP, and then press PLAY to hear your melody replayed live with synchronized on-screen vibrating strings.

Q: Can I play this virtual cello on mobile and tablet devices?

Yes. On mobile devices, you can navigate across the fingerboard smoothly using the horizontal touch slider below the instrument. Full multi-touch support allows you to play double-stops and complex chord patterns effortlessly.
