Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Everything you need to know about playing and practicing with our virtual harmonium simulator.

Q: What is a Harmonium and how does this online simulator work?

A harmonium is a free-reed keyboard instrument where sound is produced by air flowing past vibrating brass reeds. Our online simulator uses high-fidelity acoustic samples from real harmoniums and advanced Web Audio technology to deliver authentic reed dynamics and natural acoustic resonance directly in your browser.

Q: How does the Octave Coupler (8va) stop work?

The Octave Coupler (the 8va knob) automatically plays the corresponding note one octave higher alongside the note you press. This doubles the acoustic presence and delivers a richer, more powerful ensemble tone often used during energetic kirtan or bhajan singing.

Q: What are the Drone Stops (C, G, D) used for?

Drone stops lock in a continuous root or fifth note (such as Sa and Pa in Indian classical music). Clicking a drone knob keeps that acoustic pitch sounding constantly in the background, providing a rock-solid harmonic foundation for vocal practice and raga exploration.

Q: Can I record and listen back to my practice sessions?

Yes! Click the red RECORD button in the top control bar to start capturing your performance. When finished, click STOP, and then press PLAY to hear your recorded music replayed live in the browser with synchronized on-screen key presses.

Q: Is this virtual harmonium mobile and touch-friendly?

Yes. On mobile devices and tablets, the keyboard remains fully accessible via a smooth horizontal touch slider below the instrument. Full multi-touch support allows you to play chords, ornaments, and complex melodies with your fingers effortlessly.
