How to Play the Online Kalimba?
The 17-key kalimba uses a traditional alternating V-shaped layout. The lowest pitch (C4, marked as 1) is located on the longest tine right in the center, and the pitch alternates upwards to the left and right as the tines become shorter.
- Center & Left Tines (Low to High): Press 9 for C4 (Center 1). Then move outward to the left by pressing 8 (D4), 7 (F4), 6 (A4), 5 (C5), 4 (E5), 3 (G5), 2 (B5), 1 (D6).
- Center & Right Tines (Low to High): Move outward to the right from center by pressing 0 (E4), Q (G4), W (B4), E (D5), R (F5), T (A5), Y (C6), U (E6).
- Glissando & Chords: Drag your mouse or swipe your finger across adjacent tines to perform therapeutic harp-like glissandos and rich chords!
- Live Recording: Click RECORD in the top toolbar to capture your melodies, and click PLAY to hear your performance replayed with synchronized tine presses!
